The Ballentine Investment Institute
The activities of The Ballentine Investment Institute in the Martin J. Whitman School of Management are meant to "bring the markets alive," allowing students to experience and study the markets as they move, in real time, and to learn from people who are in the thick of things day-in and day-out.
George E. Bennett
Center for Accounting and Tax Research
The mission of The George E. Bennett Center for Accounting and Tax Research
is to strengthen and expand the educational opportunities for students
within the Martin J. Whitman School
of Management. The income from the fund is used to support significant
research projects in accounting and related taxation issues, and to disseminate
the research findings to students, faculty, and other interested parties
in order to enhance the reputation of the School and to honor the donor,
James Francis Toole, and the late George E. Bennett, professor of accounting
at the Whitman School.
The Syracuse Biomaterials
Institute (SBI)
The Syracuse
Biomaterials Institute (SBI) is an interdisciplinary institute focused
on research in biomaterials, smart medical devices, and biological/tissue-engineered
constructs. Biomaterials are natural and synthetic substances designed
to treat, augment, or replace tissues and organs of the human body as
treatments to disease or injury. SBI researchers are engaged in a
wide spectrum of problems, ranging from fundamental studies of the biochemical
and physical processes controlling cell functions to the development of
new technologies for biomedical applications. Emphasis is placed on fundamental
and applied studies related to medical implants spanning cardiovascular,
neurological, and orthopedic systems.
The Burton Blatt Institute (BBI)
The Burton Blatt Institute: Centers of Innovation on Disability (BBI)
at Syracuse University (SU) is building the premier organization to advance
civic, economic, and social participation of persons with disabilities
in a global society. BBI is named in honor of SU Centennial Professor
Burton Blatt, who was a pioneer in humanizing services for people with
disabilities. Through entrepreneurial innovation and public-private dialogue,
BBI is creating the capacity to transform policy, systems, and people
through inclusive education, the workforce, and communities.
Robert H. Brethen
Operations Management Institute
The mission of the Robert H. Brethen Operations Management Institute is
to foster the development and distribution of new knowledge about managing
operating systems. The institute serves three distinct constituencies:
Martin J. Whitman School of Management
students, particularly those with an interest in operations management;
practicing executives, particularly those with operations located in the
Northeastern United States; and the world-wide community of scholars and
teachers interested in developing and sharing their ideas about the art
and theory of operations management.
Alan K. Campbell
Public Affairs Institute
The Alan K. Campbell Public Affairs
Institute is an interdisciplinary research organization in the
Maxwell School dedicated to linking
the worlds of scholarship and public affairs.
The mission of the Institute is to examine the ideal of citizenship, its
evolution, and the conditions under which it thrives. The Institute explores
the relationship among citizens, private organizations, and government
in an effort to understand the development and implementation of effective
leadership, management, and policy. The Institute helps support faculty
research, service projects, and doctoral student development and presents
a wide range of seminars, workshops, and guest speakers, including the
Sawyer Law
and Politics Program, the
State of Democracy Lecture Series,
and the Maxwell Poll.
Center for Advanced Technology
in Computer Applications and Software Engineering (CASE)
The Mission of the CASE Center is to be a key contributor to the high-technology
economy of New York State by making available the intellectual (and
other) resources of Syracuse University and collaborating with New York
State businesses and economic development organizations.
Center for Environmental Quality
Systems (EQS)
This state-wide consortium of nine academic institutions and two not-for-profit
organizations has the mission to conduct research, create new knowledge,
develop and transfer technology, and educate professionals in integrated
systems that enhance human health and performance, reduce lifecycle costs
and improve the quality of built and urban environments.
Center for Environmental
Systems Engineering (CESE)
The Center for Environmental Systems Engineering encompasses faculty from
the Departments of Civil and Environmental Engineering and Chemical Engineering
and Materials Science at Syracuse University. Faculty within CESE conduct
research under the broad topic of environmental systems, focusing on environmental
assessment and environmental technology.
Center of Excellence in
Environmental and Energy Systems (CoE)
The Center of Excellence brings together a dynamic group of world-class
participants. Universities. Research partners. Corporations. Economic
development groups. All the participants are collaborating to develop
new technologies, solutions, and applications that improve human health
and productivity in built and urban environments.
Center on Human Policy
(CHP)
The Center on Human Policy in the School
of Education is a policy, research, and advocacy organization involved
in the national movement to insure the rights of people with disabilities.
Center for Health and Behavior
The Center for Health and Behavior in the College
of Arts and Sciences seeks to facilitate research on the behavioral
aspects of health.
Center for Natural Language Processing
(CNLP)
The mission of the Center for Natural Language Processing in the School
of Information Studies is to advance the development of human-like
language understanding software capabilities for government, commercial,
and consumer applications.
Center for Policy Research
(CPR)
The Center for Policy Research is an interdisciplinary applied policy
research program in the Maxwell
School of Syracuse University.
Center for Systems Assurance
(CSA)
Located within the College of Engineering
and Computer Science, the Center for Systems Assurance serves as
a focus for multi-disciplinary education and research about theory and
practices concerning protecting the confidentiality, integrity, and
availability of systems and the information they contain and convey.
Center for the
Study of Popular Television
The Center for the Study of Popular Television in the Newhouse
School of Public Communications looks seriously at the role of entertainment
television in shaping popular culture.
Community
Design Center (CDC)
The Community Design Center was established in the School
of Architecture to create new methods to motivate and engage students
in the design and planning of their physical environment.
Convergence Center
The Convergence Center is a joint effort of the School
of Information Studies and the Newhouse
School of Public Communications that supports research on and experimentation
with media convergence - the power of digital media to combine voice,
video, data, text, and money in new applications, devices and networks.
Michael J. Falcone
Center for Entrepreneurship
The Falcone Center for Entrepreneurship in the Martin
J. Whitman School of Management is affiliated with the Department
of Entrepreneurship and Emerging Enterprises at Syracuse University. The
mission is the facilitation of entrepreneurship activity on the campus,
in the local and regional community, and beyond. The Center focuses on
outreach efforts, offering a portfolio of innovative programs and initiatives
for various constituencies.
The H. H. Franklin Center for Supply Chain Management
Transportation and distribution have long been an important part of
Central New York, going back to the Erie Canal and the Saint Lawrence
Seaway. The H. H. Franklin Center for Supply Chain Management Martin
J. Whitman School of Management was established in 1920 through
the generous donation of a local industrialist and founder of the Franklin
Automobile Company. The supply chain management program at Syracuse
University and the Franklin Center have a rich history supporting student
and faculty activities in supply chain management.
Geofoam Research Center (GRC)
The Geofoam Research Center in the College
of Engineering and Computer Science is dedicated to research of
geofoam properties, development of innovative applications, dissemination
of technical information and technology transfer through education.
Information Institute of Syracuse
(IIS)
The Information Institute of Syracuse in the School
of Information Studies is the umbrella organization for a number
of highly visible and widely successful digital education information
services.
Institute for Sensory Research
(ISR)
The Institute for Sensory Research in the College
of Engineering and Computer Science is a premiere research facility
subdivided into 12 laboratories encompassing mechano-receptive anatomy,
visual anatomy, visual psychophysics, auditory physiology, tactile psychophysics,
tactile physiology, sensory - motointegration, biomaterials and biomechanics.
Office of Institutional Research
Syracuse University's Office of Institutional Research and Assessment
provides leadership in developing and implementing the University's institutional
research and assessment plan to support institutional planning, policy
analysis, and program improvement. OIRA conducts and centrally coordinates
research and assessment efforts for the University's academic and administrative
units.
Moynihan Institute
of Global Affairs
The mission of the Moynihan Institute of Global Affairs in the
Maxwell School is to extend, integrate, and focus the Maxwell School's
commitment to exploring the international and global concerns raised by
an interdependent world of diverse cultures, economies, and political
systems; support interdisciplinary, collaborative research projects among
teams of faculty and graduate students to work on understanding and solving
critical world problems; maintain a productive dialogue between the academic
and policymaking communities in the process of translating theory into
practice.
Olivia
and Walter Kiebach Center for International Business Studies
The Kiebach Center in the Martin J.
Whitman School of Management works to increase student appreciation,
knowledge, and career development in international business. The Center
also promotes the international business expertise in the teaching,
scholarship, and service of the faculty.
Harry
E. Salzberg Memorial Program
Since 1949 the Harry E. Salzberg Memorial Program at Syracuse University
has been presenting Salzberg Medallions to individuals and companies
in recognition of outstanding achievement in or contributions to the
fields of transportation, logistics, and supply chain management. Organized
by the Martin J. Whitman School of
Management, the program features lectures by the medallion recipients,
award ceremonies, as well as presentations from other distinguished
professionals and selected students. The audience is drawn from the
Syracuse University community, officials and policy makers from all
levels of government, and from the national business community.

V. Snyder Innovation Management Program
The Earl V. Snyder Innovation Management Research Center in the Martin
J. Whitman School of Management is dedicated to the study and understanding
of innovation and how it works, and the continuous advancement of performance
in innovation and its management.
Transactional Records Access
Clearinghouse (TRAC)
The Transactional Records Access Clearinghouse - a joint center of the
Newhouse School of Public Communications
and the Martin J. Whitman School of
Management - is a data gathering, data research and data distribution
organization providing access to comprehensive information on federal
staffing, spending, and enforcement activities of the federal government.
