SU Showcase is a campuswide, Earth Week celebration of students’ sustainability work and green ideas across the energy, entertainment and plastics industries. The event—geared toward all SU and SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry (SUNY-ESF) students—is also open to the public and will be held all day on Wednesday, April 18, in SU’s Schine Student Center.
The program will begin with a 9:30 a.m. panel discussion addressing the “green economy,” followed by an overview of sustainable entertainment strategies as executed by industry leaders like actor and producer Antonio Saillant. A limited seating, reservation-only complimentary luncheon for SU Showcase attendees will get started at 11:45 a.m. During lunch, Phil Sarna, music business manager, and Jason Kohlbrenner, media production expert, will join Saillant for a panel discussion on innovative greening practices within the entertainment industry.
At 1 p.m., a presentation on the future of plastics will take an in-depth look at some exciting innovations in sustainable production and disposal of plastics. This will be followed by a look at the future of energy policy with Maxwell School Dean James Steinberg, and recognition of the 2012 Showcase Fellows. The day will conclude with a 7 p.m. keynote presentation by Paul Roberts, best-selling author of “The End of Oil.”
These are just some of the many leading-edge events lined up. Visit http://sushowcase.syr.edu/Schedule.html for a complete list of all SU Showcase events and times. Check back often for updates, or follow SU Showcase on Facebook and Twitter.
