The Shenandoah Trio and Mohawk journalist Doug George-Kanentiio will hold a fundraising concert and lecture honoring Kateri Tekakwitha on Sunday, June 17, at 4 p.m. in Syracuse University’s Hendricks Chapel.

Tekakwitha (1656-1680), a Mohawk-Algonquin, will be canonized by Pope Benedict XVI on Oct. 21 at the Vatican. The Shenandoah Trio and George-Kanentiio are holding fundraisers to travel to Rome to sing at and to cover this historic occasion.

Hendricks Chapel is co-sponsoring this event. Doors open at 3:30 p.m. Tickets are $15 per person and are available at Hendricks Chapel or at the Sound Garden, 310 W. Jefferson St., in Armory Square. Tickets will also be available at the door.

In addition to music by the Shenandoah Trio, George-Kanentiio will present a biographical sketch of Tekakwitha and talk about the prophecies embedded in traditional Iroquois culture.

For more information, call Hendricks Chapel at 443-2901.
