Hill Communications, the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications’ student-run public relations firm, will launch “PAUSE: drive now. txt l8r.”—a public service campaign to raise awareness about the dangers of texting while driving—on Friday, Oct. 21, at the Carrier Dome during the SU vs. West Virginia football game. Kick-off is 8 p.m.

pauseJim Boeheim, SU men’s basketball coach, is spokesperson for the campaign, which is sponsored by Syracuse University and coincides with Family Weekend. Thumb bands and other promotional items reminding people to drive safely will be distributed to game attendees at Dome gates, and two public service announcements featuring Boeheim will be aired during the game.

Beginning at 5 p.m. on game day, student representatives will be available on the Kenneth A. Shaw Quad to speak with students and their families about distracted driving and the inspiration behind the campaign.
