Syracuse University Career Services will host its annual Career Fair at the Carrier Dome on Wednesday, Oct. 5, from 1-5 p.m. Representatives from more than 100 organizations will attend, offering students the opportunity to learn about a variety of internships and full-time job opportunities. The event is sponsored by platinum sponsors GE, JPMorgan Chase and Macy’s, as well as blue sponsors Deloitte and PricewaterhouseCoopers.
The Career Fair will showcase job and internship opportunities from a wide spectrum of employers. Some new organizations participating in this year’s Career Fair include: Aeropostale, Amphenol Aerospace, Burlington Coat Factory, eClinical Works and Turning Stone. Students of all majors are encouraged to attend, from liberal arts to business to communications, because employers will be looking for talent to fill a variety of roles.
Preparation is key. Students can view the full list of participating employers on the Career Services website. In addition, students are encouraged to visit Career Services in Suite 235 of the Schine Student Center if they wish to meet with a career counselor and strategize their approach to the Career Fair.
“Students should come to the event with a plan,” says Susan Casson, associate director of campus and employer relations. “They should know which employers they will approach, as well as how they’re going to present themselves and what types of questions to ask. We can help them craft this strategy.”
In addition to the Career Fair, Career Services will host Resumania during the two days prior to the event. This is a chance for students to have their resumes critiqued through one-on-one meetings with employer representatives. On Monday, Oct. 3, employers in technical fields will critique resumes from noon-3:30 p.m. in Suite 235 of the Schine Student Center. On Tuesday, Oct. 4, employers in non-technical fields will critique resumes from noon-3:30 p.m. in Suite 235 of the Schine Student Center. On both days, Resumania will operate on a first-come, first-served basis. All interested students are encouraged to attend.
“Resumania is a great opportunity for students to hear directly from employers about what they like to see on resumes,” says Casson. “Our goal is to match students with employers in their desired industry so that they receive advice most helpful and relevant to them.”
Career Services will also host Diversity in the Workplace, a unique networking event that brings together students from underrepresented groups with employers seeking to strengthen their workforces through diversity. This event will take place on Tuesday, Oct. 4, from 5-8 p.m. in Panasci Lounge of the Schine Student Center. Student organizations will showcase themselves to employers during the Reverse Career Fair and then students will mix and mingle with employers during the networking reception.
