The Whitman School of Management at Syracuse University will recognize a family of outstanding SU alumni—the Fagensons—at the Jonathan J. Holtz Alumnus of the Year Celebration on Wednesday, April 28, starting at 4 p.m.
The Fagenson family includes Robert B. Fagenson ’70, chair and president of Fagenson & Co., a New York Stock Exchange member brokerage firm. Fagenson has been a member of the New York Stock Exchange since 1973 and formerly served as a director and vice chairman of the exchange. He also serves as a member of the board of directors of Cash Technologies. Fagenson & Co. is a member of the National Association of Securities Dealers (NASD), a self regulatory organization of the securities industry responsible for the operation and regulation of the NASDAQ stock market and over-the-counter markets.
“We are thrilled to honor Robert and his family at the 2010 Holtz Alumnus of the Year celebration,” says Melvin T. Stith, dean of the Whitman School. “They are among Whitman’s most supportive friends and have remained active and engaged with the school long after leaving the SU campus. We are grateful for their longstanding support.”
The Whitman School will also recognize Darlene DeRemer ’77, ’79 M.B.A., partner and executive committee member with Grail Partners, and David Levy ’84, president of Turner Entertainment Ad Sales and president of Turner Sports, with the Dean’s Citation.
DeRemer has been with Grail Partners since its inception and heads the advisory practice, which focuses on clients facing strategic inflection points such as mergers, acquisitions, divestitures or recapitalizations. Prior to joining Grail, DeRemer spent 25 years as a leading advisor to the asset management industry, specializing in strategic marketing, product design and innovative service strategies. From 2000-03, she ran NewRiver’s eBusiness advisory unit. In 1987, she founded DeRemer + Associates, the first consultancy focused on the U.S. mutual fund industry. From 1985-87, DeRemer was vice president and director at State Street Global Advisors, where she managed the $4 billion pension real estate department and developed marketing and client service programs. From 1982-85, she was a vice president at T. Rowe Price and Associates.
As president of Turner Entertainment Ad Sales and Marketing and president of Turner Sports, Levy is responsible for all domestic sales and marketing for Turner Network Television (TNT), Turner Broadcasting System (TBS), the Cartoon Network, Adult Swim, Turner South and Turner Sports, and all sports acquisitions, programming, production and ad sales for sports programming. Levy previously served as co-president of TBS International, and he was the first president of international advertising sales for TBS. He began his career in 1986 as an account executive for the TBS entertainment division.
