Steve Rubel, senior vice president and director of insights for Edelman Digital, will visit Syracuse University’s S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications on Wednesday, April 14. He will be joined by Newhouse alumnus Chris Lee ’08, an account executive for Edelman. They will speak on “Three Trends for the New Decade: Public Relations and Marketing that is Real-Time, Visible and Data-Driven” at 7 p.m. in the Joyce Hergenhan Auditorium in Newhouse 3. The event is free and open to the public. Parking is available in SU pay lots.
Rubel studies emerging technologies, global media and online trends, and shapes them into actionable insights and marketing communications strategies for clients. He has served as senior strategic advisor to companies such as Dannon, HP, PepsiCo, Zagat, Unilever and Microsoft. He supports the account planning processes, intellectual property development, and innovation and business development efforts. He is a member of the Edelman Digital senior leadership committee.
His writings on emerging technology have been called must-read by The Wall Street Journal, Forbes, CNET, PC Magazine and Forrester Research. He has more than 38,000 followers on Twitter (@steverubel) and writes columns for Advertising Age and Forbes. He recently launched The Steve Rubel Stream on Facebook.
Rubel has been named to PR Week’s 40 Under 40, The Forbes.com Web Celeb 25, PC Magazine’s 100 Favorite Blogs, Media Magazine’s Media 100, the AlwaysOn/Technorati Open Media 100 and the CNET News.com Blog 100.
Lee earned a bachelor’s degree in public relations at the Newhouse School. As a student, he interned with companies such as MediaLogic, ChuffMedia and the Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New York. After graduation, he joined the Edelman Digital team as a post-grad intern and was hired as a full-time employee after a month. Lee is currently an account manager working on the American Heart Association digital account, which encompasses a number of large-scale projects, including Go Red For Women, which won two PRSA Silver Anvil awards for Integrated Communications and Public Service in 2009.
