The Syracuse University School of Information Studies (iSchool) has created a blog, Information Space (http://ischool.syr.edu/blog), featuring posts by students, faculty, staff, alumni and visitors to the iSchool who share their thoughts on a range of subjects, including campus life, technology and policy, life in an online world, modern libraries, new research, interesting accomplishments, reports from faculty and student travels and presentations, and a host of other topics.
The blog also includes videos, photos and links to more content relating to a particular topic, as well as other ways to connect to the iSchool via social media.
“We make an effort to practice what we preach and to remain on the leading edge of the information field,” says iSchool Dean Elizabeth D. Liddy. “We value each individual as a contributor to the school’s success now and in the future. With this mindset, we encourage our faculty, staff, students and other community members to employ social media tools to expand the ways in which we communicate with each other. Our new blog will better enable us to have an active dialogue with those who wish to engage with the school.”
“Hinds Hall is a space where very different people come together around a common interest,” says iSchool social media strategist and adjunct professor Anthony Rotolo. “But the energy of the iSchool extends far beyond the walls of Hinds Hall. The vision for this blog is not just another source for iSchool news. It’s not designed to be a recruiting tool or a marketing device. Information Space is a conversation. It’s a place where, just like Hinds Hall, we can share our mutual passion for the information field.”
