Grammy Award-winning musician Branford Marsalis to perform as part of SU Family Weekend on Sept. 26

Recognized as one of the world’s most accomplished jazz musicians, Branford Marsalis will take the stage for a performance during Syracuse University Family Weekend on Sunday, Sept. 26, at 2 p.m., in Goldstein Auditorium of the Hildegarde and J. Myer Schine Student Center.

marsalisA three-time Grammy winner from one of the world’s most distinguished musical families, Marsalis is known for his innovative spirit and broad musical scope. Equally at home on the stages of the world’s greatest clubs and concert halls, Marsalis has performed jazz with his quartet and adds his own unique musical approach to contemporary popular music with his band Buckshot LeFonque. His latest CD, “Metamorphosen,” marks the 10th anniversary of the quartet, which features pianist Joey Calderazzo, bassist Eric Revis and drummer Justin Faulkner. The CD includes original compositions by all four members in a variety of moods and features Marsalis on tenor, soprano and alto saxophones.

Tickets for SU and SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry students are $5. They will be available for pre-sale, with SU or SUNY-ESF I.D., at the Schine Box Office beginning on Thursday, Aug. 26, at 9 a.m. and ending on Saturday, Sept. 4, at 9 p.m. There is a limit of one pre-sale ticket per student. Tickets for Family Weekend registrants are $16 and will be available for pre-sale at the Schine Box Office. They may also be purchased online at http://students.syr.edu/boxoffice/, with an additional $1.25 processing fee. The Family Weekend registrant pre-sale begins on Thursday, Aug. 26, at 9 a.m. and ends on Saturday, Sept. 4, at 9 p.m. Registrants will need the password from their Family Weekend registration receipt in order to purchase tickets.

Tickets for SU faculty and staff and Pulse Partners are $16. Tickets for the general public are $20. All will be available at the Schine Box Office or may be purchased online at http://students.syr.edu/boxoffice/, with an additional $1.25 processing fee. Sale of faculty, staff, Pulse Partners and general public tickets begins on Tuesday, Sept. 7, at 11 a.m.

The event is presented by the Office of Student Activities, the Pulse Performing Arts Series and the Parents Office.
