Samba Laranja: the Syracuse University Brazilian Ensemble, which is based in the Rose, Jules R. and Stanford S. Setnor School of Music in SU's College of Visual and Performing Arts (VPA), will perform pre-show music for "Brazilian Stories with Paquito D'Rivera" March 13-14 at Jazz at Lincoln Center's Rose Theater, Broadway at 60th St., New York City.
"Brazilian Stories" will feature multi-reedman Rivera with vocalist Leny Andrade and clarinetist Anat Cohen. Samba Laranja will perform at 6:30 p.m. each evening, followed by Rivera and guests at 8 p.m. Ticket information is available online at http://www.jalc.org or by calling CenterCharge at (212) 721-6500.
Samba Laranja combines voice and percussion to perform several styles of Brazilian music, with an emphasis on samba, samba-reggae, forró, bossa nova, the music of Capoeira and MPB (Brazilian popular music).
