"First Year," a mini-series detailing the dramatic freshman year of two college roommates, debuts Monday, Feb. 9, at 9:30 p.m. on the Orange Television Network (OTN), cable channel 2 on the Syracuse University campus. From Feb. 9-March 8, students can win a $25 Wegmans gift certificate if they correctly answer a question about that week's episode.
A question will appear during the show and on the OTN website each week; students who submit the correct answer will be entered into a gift certificate raffle. The winner will be selected every Sunday. Answers may be submitted to orangetv@syr.edu. All winners will be notified by e-mail.
The six-episode series details the lives of Alex and Jen, two undeclared majors who think they have a lot in common, which quickly changes as they experience the first year of college. A rollercoaster ride soon ensues as they encounter difficulties with academics and social life, all while dealing with issues of alcohol, sex and relationships.
"First Year" will air throughout the spring semester each weekday at 9:30 p.m., with new episodes on Mondays. For additional program scheduling, refer to Channel 99 or visit http://orangetv.syr.edu/.
"First Year" launched in the 2007-08 academic year with two episodes, the second of which was awarded a silver Telly Award in the award competition's health and wellness category in July 2008.
"First Year" is produced by the Video Production Unit of SU Information Technology and Services in association with the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications, and is sponsored by the Healthy Monday/Healthy IM Campus Initiative. OTN was established in 2005 as the official SU campus television station. All shows on OTN are student-produced, some of which are generated by the University student group Citrus TV.
