The Syracuse University School of Information Studies (iSchool) and the U.S. Army Signal Center School of Information Technology at Fort Gordon (SIGCEN) have established a formal agreement to provide an opportunity for qualified U.S. Army Signal Center students and graduates to complete master’s degrees at the iSchool.
On Friday, Oct. 30, at 3 p.m., SU officials and visitors from U.S. Army SIGCEN will participate in a signing ceremony in honor of this agreement in Room 347 of Hinds Hall on the SU campus. Refreshments will be served immediately following the ceremony.
The ceremony will consist of a short message from iSchool Dean Elizabeth D. Liddy, SU Vice Chancellor and Provost Eric F. Spina, current iSchool student and U.S. Army Maj. Jonathan Hughes G’09, and Brig. Gen. Jeffrey W. Foley, commanding officer of the U.S. Army Signal Center and Fort Gordon.
iSchool Professor of Practice and Director of Executive Education Scott Bernard, who is also a retired U.S. Navy officer, will open the ceremony with welcoming remarks. Retired Maj. Gen. Dale W. Meyerrose of the U.S. Air Force, who is also an iSchool adjunct faculty member, and Brig. Gen. David G. Reist of the U.S. Marine Corps, who is collaborating on research with the University’s Center for Information and Systems Assurance and Trust, will also be in attendance.
“This agreement will attract some incredibly bright students who will enrich the classroom by sharing their exceptional global experience with our others students,” says Susan Corieri, director of enrollment management at the iSchool.
The agreement enables soldiers who have completed FA53 Information Systems Managers and/or the FA24 Telecommunications Engineers at SIGCEN to transfer 9- 15 credits toward an M.S. in information management or M.S. in telecommunications and network management at the iSchool. The agreement also allows active soldiers—many of whom may be deployed overseas—to complete the master’s degree requirements through online courses. Retired army officers will also be able to take advantage of this opportunity and may enroll in the campus or the online programs.
