The Fourth Annual Charity Sports Auction, presented by Syracuse University's Sport Management (SPM) Club in April 2009, raised $20,000 for the Golisano Children's Hospital at Upstate. The SPM Club's donation will fund a respiratory therapy equipment/work room for storing equipment designed for pediatric patients, as well as a small office space for a dedicated pediatric respiratory therapist.
"The current economy made this year's event our most challenging to date. Yet our students persevered in their efforts, learning a great deal along the way. We truly couldn't be prouder of each and every one of them and the amazing event that they produced," says Kate Futrell, manager- career center and event planning for SU's Department of Sport Management and the 2009 auction chair.
The SU Sport Management Club is a student-run organization of the College of Human Ecology's Department of Sport Management. Since its founding in 2005, the club has grown to nearly 100 members and has raised more than $75,000 for local charities like the Syracuse Boys & Girls Clubs of Central New York and the American Diabetes Association of Central New York.
