The Tully Center for Free Speech in Syracuse University's S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications will host an advance screening of the film "Nothing But the Truth" on Thursday, Oct. 30, at 6:45 p.m. in the Joyce Hergenhan Auditorium, Newhouse 3. Overflow seating will be available in the Halmi Screening Room, Room 141 of Newhouse 3. The event is open to the campus community.
NOTE: Reviews are embargoed until the film's official release date, expected in 2009.
Alan Alda, who stars in the film, and Rod Lurie, the film's writer and director, will attend the event and participate in a question-and-answer session following the screening.
Alda will also participate in "Alan Alda Live" at 3:30 p.m. in the Hergenhan Auditorium. A panel of students from the Newhouse School and the College of Visual and Performing Arts will interview Alda, after which he will take questions from the audience.
"Nothing But the Truth" raises issues of media law and ethics. Set for release in 2009, the film tells the story of a newspaper reporter (Kate Beckinsale) who faces a possible jail sentence for outing a CIA agent and refusing to reveal her source.
SU alumna Vera Farmiga '95 also stars in the film, along with Matt Dillon, David Schwimmer, Angela Bassett and Noah Wyle.
