Kandice L. Salomone has been appointed interim associate dean for student services in The College of Arts and Sciences, replacing Associate Dean David Potter, who recently transitioned to a half-time position. Salomone also serves as the College's associate dean for administration and holds a joint appointment as associate professor of communication in the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications.
As associate dean for student services, Salomone will oversee the operations of the College's Academic Advising and Counseling Services, Career Exploration Services, Student Records Office and Pre-professional Advising Services (University Pre-Law Advising and Health Professions Advisory Program).
As the College's associate dean for administration, Salomone provides leadership for ongoing departmental and college-wide assessment initiatives and directs iLearn, which administers the Ruth Meyer Scholars and Undergraduate Research programs, and the SU Undergraduate Mock Trial Program. Salomone has also organized and managed the Geoffrey O. Seltzer and Peter Graham lectures as well as the Jeanette K. Watson Distinguished Visiting Professorship in the Humanities and the annual Syracuse Symposium. The Watson Professorship and the Syracuse Symposium will be managed by SU's Humanities Center.
Prior to coming to SU in 2004, Salomone was associate dean in the University of Rhode Island's University College, the academic home for all incoming undergraduate students until they matriculate into their degree-granting colleges. She also served as assistant director of Rhode Island's Office of Strategic Planning and Institutional Research and as an adjunct assistant professor and member of Rhode Island's Graduate School in the departments of communication studies and journalism. Salomone was assistant professor of journalism at the E.W. Scripps School of Journalism at Ohio University before her work at Rhode Island.
Salomone is a co-author on a number of scholarly articles published in Educause Quarterly, Journalism Quarterly, Journal of College and Student Retention, Journalism Educator, Editor and Publisher, among others, and of a chapter in "Seeking Equity for Women in Journalism and Mass Communication Education" (Lawrence Erlbaum Associates, 2004).
