Syracuse University will celebrate "The Experience of the Creative Mind" on Thursday, Oct. 2, as some of the University's most accomplished alumni and friends will meet with students and faculty to explore campus life. The day's program will include a poetry workshop, a cabaret performance and tours of the University Art Collection and Lowe Art Center.
"This is a wonderful opportunity to connect some of SU's most gifted and skilled alumni with the work being done by our students and faculty," says Thomas J. Walsh, vice president for leadership gifts. The group of visitors will interact with students, give lectures and sit in on classes and studios.
Participants include Kitty Carlisle Hart, actress, singer and chairman emeritus of the New York State Council on the Arts; Peter Galassi curator at the Museum of Modern Art; Mary Karr, author of "The Liars' Club;" Lynn Ahrens, Broadway lyricist; and Edward Bleier, author of "The Thanksgiving Ceremony: New Traditions for America's Family Feast."
"This interactive day is very much about continuous learning," says Chancellor and President Kenneth A. Shaw. "It is one of the ways the University ensures that students learn from practitioners."
The day will culminate in a lecture and recital by acclaimed soprano Denyce Graves, who will perform in Hendricks Chapel at 6:30 p.m. as part of SU's University Lecture series.
