Poet and scholar Bonnie St. Andrews will present a poetry reading on "Life's Journey From Birth Through Mid-Life and Through Death," Oct. 3 at 4 p.m. in the Hillyer Room, on the sixth floor of Syracuse University's E.S. Bird Library. The event is free and open to the public.
The presentation, part of the 2003 Syracuse Symposium: "Journeys," is part of the symposium's special focus on The Journey at the End of Life.
St. Andrews is a Distinguished Teaching Professor in Bioethics and Humanities at SUNY Upstate Medical University. She is the founding editor of the Upstate's Center for Bioethics and Humanities' (CBH) literary journal, The Healing Muse.
St. Andrews oversees CBH's therapeutic writing and art program for children in University Hospital. Her scholarly writings and poems have appeared in the Arizona Quarterly, The Paris Review and The New Yorker.
The Syracuse Symposium, presented for the University by The College of Arts and Sciences, is an annual intellectual festival celebrating interdisciplinary thinking, imagining and creating. The 2003 theme is "Journeys"; journeys of exploration and discovery, intellectual journeys, mythical and artistic journeys, migrations of peoples, exiles, liberations, pilgrimages and more. The series includes lectures, exhibits, performances and other special events.
