Following is the latest information, as of Monday night, from Syracuse University of campus activities in response to Sept. 11's terrorism in New York City, Washington, D.C., and Pennsylvania.

SU News Site Lists Alumni, Others Who Died or are Missing After Sept. 11 Terrorism

Many members of the University community were directly affected by the terrorist acts of Sept. 11, either aboard one of the four fallen airliners or at the Pentagon or World Trade Center. The University has been working to gather information on their status. The most updated information is available at the Syracuse University News site (http://sunews.syr.edu). Sadly, at this writing four members of the University community have been pronounced dead. If you are aware of the condition of other SU alumni, students, faculty or staff (both present and former) who were at any of the sites, please contact the Office of Alumni Relations at 1-800-782-5867 or e-mail Lil Breul O'Rourke '77, associate vice president for alumni relations, at eorourke@syr.edu.

Flags Distributed, Tributes Planned for SU/Auburn Football Game This Saturday

Those attending this Saturday's SU/Auburn football game in the Carrier Dome are urged to arrive early for extra security checks at Dome entrances and pre-game activities paying tribute to the victims of the Sept. 11 tragedies and the rescue workers who continue to work in the disaster areas. Gates will open at 6 p.m.; fans should be in their seats by 7:30 p.m. for the pre-game ceremony, which will include a special musical performance by the Syracuse University Pride of the Orange Marching Band. Fans will find a U.S. flag at each seat to display during the pre-game ceremony. Before the game, more than 150 SU student-athletes wearing 'Cuse Cares T-shirts will be around the Dome and parking areas to collect donations for the September 11th Fund of the United Way of America for New York City's disaster relief efforts; the volunteer effort is part of SU's annual Dollar Day at the Dome collections efforts for the United Way. Saturday's game is scheduled to be televised nationally by ESPN.

Need for Clothing Lessens; Need for Monetary Donations Continues

The Center for Public and Community Service (CPCS) thanks the many generous individuals who have donated T-shirts, socks and other clothing items for rescue workers in New York City. Because of the tremendous outpouring of support from SU and elsewhere, no more clothing is needed at this time. Money, however, is still urgently needed; CPCS will continue to collect monetary donations for the American Red Cross and the United Way.

RHA Holds Fund-Raiser in Schine Center

In keeping with the need for donations, the Residence Hall Association is hosting a fund-raising table in the Schine Student Center atrium from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day this week. Contributions are appreciated. Anyone who stops by will receive a white and blue ribbon.

DIPA Centers Show Their Support

In the aftermath of Tuesday's terrorism, SU's overseas centers held information meetings with all student participants; special services and counselors are available at all of the centers. Most have held or are holding services. In Madrid, a memorial service and candle-lighting ceremony was held on the afternoon of Thursday, Sept. 13; Cathy Bingman, a local minister and professor at the SU Center in Madrid, led the service.

In Hong Kong, Captain Ma from the Salvation Army arranged a service and meeting for students in the Hong Kong program on Wednesday, Sept. 12. In Florence, Director Barbara Deimling led a memorial service and held a moment of silence on Thursday, Sept. 13. In London, a memorial service was held at Royalty Studios at noon today; words by the Rev. Thomas V. Wolfe, dean of Hendricks Chapel, and others were read at the service. In Strasbourg, the center has provided CNN coverage of events in the student lounge, and staff have fostered discussions and informal talks.

Evangelical Community Plans Gathering Friday

Members of the local Evangelical community are planning a special gathering on Friday, Sept. 21, at 8 p.m. in the Noble Room of Hendricks Chapel. It is titled "Finding Hope Amidst Disaster: A Special Service of Prayer & Discussion." All are welcome to attend. The gathering is presented by the Office of Evangelical Chaplaincy at Hendricks Chapel, Syracuse University and other Evangelical Christian groups.
