In honor of its recent founding at SU, the College of Human Services and Health Professions (HSHP) will hold a series of celebratory events during the week of Sept. 24.
HSHP officially opened on July 1 under the leadership of founding dean William Pollard. One school and two colleges-the College for Human Development, the College of Nursing and the School of Social Work-were merged to form HSHP, which now includes two schools-the School of Nursing and the School of Social Work-and three departments: Child and Family Studies, Marriage and Family Therapy, and Nutrition and Hospitality Management. The college has just under 1,000 students and about 50 full-time faculty members.
"We have worked on the founding of this college for nearly two years," says Pollard. "Now that we have officially opened and welcomed our first entering class, we are ready to celebrate the new college, and we hope our colleagues across campus will join us in that celebration."
Informational tables will be open in the Schine Student Center Atrium from noon to 1:30 p.m. on Sept. 24 and from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sept. 25, 26 and 28. No activities are scheduled for Sept. 27 in observance of Yom Kippur.
Scheduled events during the week include the following:
? An academic convocation from 10 to 11 a.m. Sept. 24 in Hendricks Chapel, followed by a reception in the Noble Room. A tree planting and dedication will take place on the Quad in front of Link Hall at 2 p.m.
? A Celebration Dinner at the Sheraton Syracuse University Hotel and Conference Center Sept. 25 from 6 to 9 p.m. Reservations are required. Call 443-5582 for more information.
? An open house staged by the college's student services in 112 Slocum from 2 to 5 p.m. Sept. 26. Refreshments will be served.
? A "Lunch on the Quad" will be held from noon to 2 p.m. Sept. 28.
