Alan Jackson and Tammy Wynette, will perform at SU on Sept. 25
Award-winning singer/songwriter Tim Sullivan will perform his one-man show, "Diary of a Songwriter," at Syracuse University's Rose and Jules R. Setnor Auditorium Sept. 25 as part of the Syracuse Symposium 2003: "Journeys." His performance begins at 7:30 p.m. and is free and open to the public.
In "Diary of a Songwriter," Sullivan uses music, song and storytelling to weave the tale of his journey from the plains of Oklahoma to the bright lights and fast-paced streets of Los Angeles and Nashville. Sullivan says that the performance, an original blend of folk, rock, country, blues and pop, is "all about music--how great songs get written, how they become a part of who we are and how they shape our lives, our loves and our dreams."
Sullivan has been a part of the music world since the age of six, when he began performing in gospel concerts with his musically talented family. As a teenager, he formed his first band, which was named one of the 10 best bands in a national competition.
After graduating from Oklahoma University, Sullivan moved to Los Angeles to pursue a singing and acting career. He has performed with such stars as Vince Gill, Alan Jackson, Tammy Wynette, Willie Nelson and Glen Campbell, and performed last May at Carnegie Hall. Wall Street Journal critic Daniel Henninger described the Carnegie Hall performance as "quite moving."

Following the Sept. 25 performance, Sullivan will engage in conversation with the audience about the development of the show and his journey into the music industry.
The Syracuse Symposium, presented for the University by The College of Arts and Sciences, is an annual intellectual festival celebrating interdisciplinary thinking, imagining and creating. The 2003 theme is "Journeys"; journeys of exploration and discovery, intellectual journeys, mythical and artistic journeys, migrations of peoples, exiles, liberations, pilgrimages and more. The series continues throughout the Fall 2003 semester and will include lectures, exhibits, performances and other special events.
