The Office of University Lecutres has announced that Robert Kennedy Jr. has been added to the lineup for the 2003-04 season, joining celebrity speakers including director Martin Scorsese, writer and radio personality Garrison Keillor and political commentator Molly Ivins.
Kennedy, a noted environmental and political activist, will speak Feb. 5, 2004, at 7:30 p.m. in Hendricks Chapel. The lecture will be free and open to the public.
Kennedy's reputation as a resolute defender of the environment stems from a litany of successful legal actions: prosecuting governments and companies for polluting the Hudson River and Long Island sound; winning settlements for the Hudson Riverkeeper; arguing cases to expand citizen access to the shoreline; and suing sewage treatment plants to force compliance with the Clean Water Act. He will speak on his work with the Hudson Riverkeeper, Waterkeepers Alliance and Natural Resources Defense Council, among other topics.
The University Lectures, now in its third season, has established a tradition for bringing influential doers and thinkers to the SU campus. The 2003-04 lineup of speakers builds on that tradition by inviting distinguished and inspiring personalities from the fields of music, cinema, art and architecture, science, politics and law.
