Syracuse University's Rose, Jules R. and Stanford S. Setnor School of Music will present "Ken Meyer and Friends: Chamber Music with Guitar" at 8 p.m. Sept. 25 in the Rose and Jules R. Setnor Auditorium in SU's Crouse College. The concert, which will also feature vocalist Carol Spradling, violinist and faculty member Andrew Waggoner and University organist Christopher Marks, is free and open to the public.
The musicians will perform works by Agustin Barrios, Liu Zhuang, Astor Piazzolla, Jaoquin Rodrigo, Chris DeBlasio and a medley of five spirituals arranged by Rodney Stucky.
Meyer is recognized as one of the country's new generation of outstanding classical guitarists. In 1994, he won first prize in the Music Teachers National Association-Wurlitzer Collegiate Artist Competition. He has appeared in solo recitals, as an orchestral soloist, a chamber musician and a member of the Buffalo Guitar Quartet in performances throughout the United States, Canada, Italy and Venezuela.
Meyer has been involved with a number of music festivals, including the Rome Festival, the Eastman SummerFest and the Alirio Diaz Guitar Festival and Competition held in South America. He holds degrees in both guitar performance and competition from the State University of New York College at Fredonia and master's and doctoral degrees in guitar performance and literature from theEastman School of Music. He is on the faculty of the SUNY College at Fredonia and serves as director of guitar studies in the Setnor School of Music.
