Bruce Smith will read from his works of poetry Sept. 11 at 5:45 p.m. in Syracuse University's Gifford Auditorium (located in Huntington Beard Crouse Hall) as part of the Raymond Carver Lecture Series.
Smith is the author of four books of poems, most recently, "The Other Lover" (University of Chicago, 2000). "Mercy Seat," his previous collection, was nominated by University of Chicago for the National Book Award. His work has appeared in The Nation, The New Republic, The Paris Review, The Partisan Review, Poetry and The American Poetry Review, among others. He has twice been a recipient of fellowships from the National Endowment of the Arts and the Massachusetts Foundation for the Arts. He teaches graduate courses in SU's College of Arts and Sciences.
