Gregory J. Griffin has been named senior director of development for the SU Library. The library's newly formed development office is responsible for comprehensive fund raising and external support activities. Griffin will report to the University Librarian and sit on the library's Administrative Committee, and he will work closely with the University's Office of Institutional Advancement.
"Gregory Griffin will be of very great importance to the library and the University," says University Librarian Peter Graham. "His energy and experience in academic fund raising will let him hit the ground running. He has assisted his previous institutions to achieve new levels of fund raising. Library staff members who interviewed Griffin noted his enthusiasm, energy and articulateness, as well as his experience, which will be directly applicable to library needs. We all look forward to working with Gregory as he shapes the library's development program."
Griffin comments, "I look forward to working with Peter Graham, Syracuse University's library staff and other members of the campus community to shape a strategic development plan that will enable the library to meet the needs of its constituents. The library is poised to succeed in its endeavor to provide the support and enhanced services that the best research libraries in the country can offer. It's an honor to assist in this effort, so central to SU's academic mission."
Griffin comes to SU from St. Lawrence University in Canton, N.Y., where since 1998 he has been director of alumni and parent programs. Among his accomplishments at St. Lawrence, he reorganized a national alumni volunteer network, an effort recognized with a 2000 award from the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE).
Previously, Griffin was associate director of annual giving at Alfred University, district director of the Tarrytown Muscular Dystrophy Association and seminar director for the Syracuse-based Central New York Business Journal.
He obtained his B.A. in English writing and government from St. Lawrence University and earned an M.B.A. from Alfred University. He has been active in community affairs, including serving on the board of directors for the Canton Day Care Center and volunteering as a fund-raising consultant for St. Marguerite D' Louville of Ogdensburg.
