Michael T. Cahill has been named interim director of the Center for Career Services at Syracuse University. Cahill, who has worked as associate director of the center since late 1997, officially started his new role on Aug. 1. He succeeds Kelley Bishop, who is now the director of career services at Michigan State University.

As interim director, Cahill will oversee all operations of the center, which provides students and alumni with assistance in career planning and the job search process; connections to employment and continuing education opportunities; and information about career options and job market trends.

He also plans to continue to work with other career services colleagues at SU to strengthen the collaborative efforts of the career services network and streamline the work of all of the University's career-related units. In addition, Cahill aims to have all career advisors on campus achieve certification in the delivery of career services by the end of the academic year.

Charles P. Merrihew, associate vice president for student affairs, says Cahill has brought perspective and direction to the center. "Mike's unique knowledge of the Career Center's past, combined with our present agenda, will allow us to continue our current goals during the search process for a new director."

Cahill has worked at the Center for Career Services for a total of 14 years, starting as a counselor in 1987. He also worked as a graduate assistant in SU's College of Arts and Sciences while completing his master's degree in counseling.

A native of Sherburne, Cahill received a bachelor's degree in psychology and sociology from Binghamton University in 1976. He and his wife, Peggy, live in the University's East neighborhood.
