Ben Gazzara, star of the one-man play "Nobody Don't Like Yogi," will throw out the first pitch at the Syracuse SkyChiefs game on Aug. 13 at 7 p.m. Promotional giveaways at the game will include tickets to the Syracuse Stage production.
Syracuse Stage will present this play just prior to its New York City opening at the Union Square Theatre. "Yogi" will run at Syracuse Stage from Aug. 20 - Sept. 7. Focusing on the day Berra first returns to Yankee Stadium after being fired as the coach years earlier, the play tells the classic American story of how talent can overcome obstacles.
Gazzara's career has taken him from extraordinary early stage successes, where he originated roles in "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof" and "Hatful of Rain," to such films as "End as a Man" and "Anatomy of Murder." More recent work includes the Coen brothers' "The Big Lebowski" and Spike Lee's "Summer of Sam." Gazzara was nominated for a 2003 Emmy award for his work in HBO's "Hysterical Blindness."
