Vice Chancellor and Provost Deborah A. Freund will hold an Open Forum on the proposal to close the School of Nursing on Oct. 23 from 4 to 5 p.m. in Maxwell Auditorium. All are welcome to attend.
Freund will answer questions about her recommendation to the University Senate that the University discontinue undergraduate and graduate degree programs in nursing, and ultimately close the School of Nursing. If the Senate recommends and the University's Board of Trustees approves closure, the University will begin the phase-out process, anticipating completion by the end of the 2005-06 academic year.
Freund announced her intention to recommend closure of the school in July. She cited the school's declining enrollment and the strategic reinvestment of resources to areas of institutional strength as called for in the University's Academic Plan as reasons for her recommendation.
