SU's orange fever peaks with Friday parade, pep rally and fireworks; Saturday Bar-B-Q, dedication and game

Street closings, bus schedules, parking details announced

Syracuse University invites students, faculty, staff, alumni and the Central New York community to celebrate "A Slice of the Good Times" during Homecoming 2003. Highlights on Friday, Oct. 17 will include "Wear Orange Day" and a parade, pep rally and fireworks that will be free and open to the public.

The Homecoming 2003 parade, featuring a student banner competition and free orange pom-poms provided by the Residence Hall Association (while supplies last), will begin at 6 p.m. in front of the Schine Student Center. All are invited to show their true SU orange colors at the 7 p.m. pep rally in the Carrier Dome, which will be followed by a spectacular fireworks display at 8 p.m., with best viewing from the Quad.

Free public parking will be offered on a space-available basis after 5 p.m. on Friday in the Stadium, Henry, Fine and Standart lots west of the Carrier Dome and at Manley Field House.

There will be several street closings on Friday because of Homecoming activities. Thornden Park will be closed to vehicular traffic beginning at 7 a.m. Ostrom Avenue will be closed between Madison Street and University Place from 7:30-9 p.m., as will all streets between Comstock Avenue and Thornden Park, including Madison Street, Harrison Street, East Adams Street, Marshall Street, Waverly Street and University Place. Comstock Avenue will remain open.

On Saturday, the celebration continues on the Quad with the Orange Friendzy pre?game Bar?B?Q beginning at 9 a.m. and the Orange Grove dedication at 10 a.m., before SU takes on Boston College in the Homecoming football game at noon. Paid parking for Saturday events will be available at Skytop.
