Syracuse Stage to host "Angry Inch" auditions June 19 for local rock musicians

June 16, 2003

Syracuse Stage will be holding auditions for local rock musicians to form the Angry Inch, the band that appears in this upcoming season's production of "Hedwig and the Angry Inch." Auditions will be held Thursday, June 19 from 3:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. in the Archbold Theatre at Syracuse Stage. The director, Michael Donald Edwards, will be auditioning for a drummer, bassist, guitarist and keyboardist. The script calls for the band to be all male. Individual musicians as well as full bands are welcome to audition. Individual musicians may pull in others to help play, if needed.

Two songs should be prepared for the auditions, including one from the glam rock period (David Bowie, etc.). A drum kit and amplifiers will be in place onstage. Each audition slot is ten minutes long.

"Hedwig," which will run from Jan. 21-Feb. 15, 2004, is the story of a musician who suffers a botched sex change operation and the rejection of two men, then learns to make it on her own, touring from town to town with her band The Angry Inch. As noted in Rolling Stone, "In the whole long, sorry history of rock musicals, Hedwig and the Angry Inch is the first one that really rocks."
