The Department of Transmedia's computer art program in
Syracuse University's
College of Visual and Performing Arts (VPA) and the Red House Arts Center will
present "Techno_Culture," an exhibition of new media and digital art, April 16-30 at
the Red House's Joan Lukas Rothenberg Gallery, 201 S. West St., Syracuse. An
opening reception will be held Thursday, April 16, from 5-8 p.m. The exhibition and
reception are free and open to the public.
"Techno_Culture" shows works from artists who use numerous forms of technology
in their creative process. It offers a sampling of the vast area of art forms unique to
our digital-based culture. The exhibition features the work of artists Stephen
Belovarich, Wafaa Bilal, Meggan Gould, Michael Heroux, Shawn Lawson, Chris
Prior, Olivia Robinson and Alicia Ross.
Sean Hovendick, faculty member in the computer art program, is the curator of
"Techno_Culture." His interactive, procedural and time-based works explore the
hidden forces of power, identity and social order within the mediated psyche. His
work has been exhibited both nationally and internationally, most recently at the
Gallery Aferro in Newark, N.J.; in the traveling exhibition "Experiencing the War in
Iraq"; and in "FutureSonic: International Festival of Art, Music & Ideas" in
Manchester, England.
