Registration is now open for the Ninth International Healthy Buildings Conference and
Exhibition (HB2009), which will be held in Syracuse, N.Y., from Sept. 13-17. The event will
include presentations by experts from more than 40 counties. Learn more at http://hb2009.org.
Held every three years, Healthy Buildings attracts academic researchers and other professionals
from the disciplines of architecture, building products and services, engineering, indoor
environmental quality, public health, urban planning and workplace performance.

The purpose of the conference is to facilitate international and interdisciplinary communication
and collaboration. At the conference, papers will be presented on topics in indoor
environmental quality, human performance and productivity, buildings and public health, indoor
contaminants and pollutants, and building design and assessment.

Healthy Buildings is a premier conference of the International Society for Indoor Air Quality
and Climate (ISIAQ). Previous Healthy Buildings conferences were held in Stockholm (1988);
Washington, D.C. (1991, 1997); Budapest (1994); Milan (1995); Helsinki (2000); Singapore
(2003); and Lisbon (2006).

Announced as a host city in 2006, Syracuse was chosen for the international recognition and
reputation garnered by the Syracuse Center of Excellence (SyracuseCoE) through its work on
indoor environmental quality, clean and renewable energy, and water resources, and on the
relationship of these focus areas to built environments-the places in which we live, work and
learn.

The HB2009 Conference will bring together world-renowned experts in these fields, both as
paper and poster presenters and as keynote speakers. The following research and industry
leaders will address plenary sessions of the HB2009 Conference:

  • Carl-Gustav Bornehag of Karlstad University (Sweden), the Swedish National Testing and
Research Institute, and the Technical University of Denmark
  • Ginger L. Chew of the National Center for Environmental Health, Centers for Disease
    Control and Prevention
  • S. Richard Fedrizzi (Invited), president, CEO and founding chairman of the U.S. Green
    Building Council
  • Eduardo de Oliveira Fernandes of the Faculty of Engineering, University of Porto, Portugal
  • Tom Kelly, director, Indoor Environments Division, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency
  • Yuguo Li of the University of Hong Kong and associate editor of Indoor Air
  • Shin-ichi Tanabe of Architectural Environment and Equipment, Waseda University, Japan

The HB2009 Exhibition will provide firms an unparalleled forum for the exchange of clean and
green technology developments, a unique opportunity to showcase innovative products and
services, and an extraordinary venue to network with national and global leaders in healthy
buildings and green and clean technology.

In addition, the HB2009 Opportunity Exchange (OppEx) will present industry-leader keynote
speakers; healthy buildings and clean and green technology product and service demonstrations;
technology transfer ideas from world-class research universities; tactical, small-group business
development meetings; an exclusive networking reception; and many more opportunities for
intellectual engagement among attendees.

HB2009 attendees will have the opportunity to sample the best of the region at scheduled
festivities, including a mayor's reception on Monday, Sept. 14, in Everson Plaza and a dinner and
dance on Wednesday, Sept. 16, at the Oncenter. Entertainment during the five-day conference
will be provided by local talent, including the award-winning musician Joanne Shenandoah,
members of the Syracuse Symphony and high school students. In addition, spouses and others
accompanying the attendees will have opportunity to shop locally and tour the outstanding
natural beauty of Central Upstate New York in late summer.

Syracuse Center of Excellence (http://syracusecoe.org) is a collaborative organization of more than 200
businesses and institutions that creates innovations for sustainable built and urban environments.
SyracuseCoE members work on research, development and educational projects relating to clean and
renewable energy, indoor environmental quality and water resources.
