The Sheraton Syracuse University Hotel & Conference Center recently completed installation of a multi-dimensional security system featuring access control for guests and employees and closed-circuit television designed to provide for the highest level of safety and security for hotel guests, employees and hotel property.
Installed by Siemens Building Technologies under the supervision of James Toman, the hotel's Director of Security, the access control system features a network of contact points controlled by key cards issued to employees, motion detectors in key locations throughout the hotel and a software package able to track specific entry points and card usage. A unique feature of the access control system is a reader placed in all elevators that interfaces with guest room keys. Each guest is instructed on how the system operates to provide access to his or her guestroom floor.
The CCTV network includes full color cameras strategically placed throughout the property and linked to a supporting Digital Video Recorder and monitor located within the Security Department. This system, which includes motion sensors for each camera, allows the hotel not only the option to view activity on a real time basis, but also the capability to retrieve historical information for each location.
"We anticipated that our guests would appreciate our efforts to continue to provide the most safe and secure environment for them and their family members when visiting our area," says David Heymann, the hotel's general manager. "Based on our guest feedback to this point, we were right on with our assessment. I have spoken to a number of guests who are very impressed with our commitment to this new technology."
