Many people feel there is an unwillingness to confront wrongdoing and a failure of
moral courage in both the public and private sectors. The past year has seen a
proliferation of corruption and irresponsibility in government, financial institutions,
and the education and medical professions. In his Inaugural Address, President
Obama vowed to usher in a "new era of responsibility," but he has already
experienced difficulty enforcing new, stricter ethics rules.

In the spring 2009 Intelligent Conversation Series, University College and Le Moyne
College invite citizens to explore "Ethical Dilemmas in a Changing World."

The first conversation in the series, examining "Medical Ethics: The Complexities of
Modern Medicine," is Tuesday, April 14, from 7-8:30 p.m. in Grewen Auditorium on
the Le Moyne College campus. Parking is available in Lot C off Springfield Road (go
to http://www.lemoyne.edu/resources/campusinfo.htm for directions). The event is
free and open to the public.

Moderator Susan Bastable, professor of nursing and associate dean of applied health
sciences at Le Moyne College, will be joined by two panelists: Dr. Gregory L.
Eastwood, professor of bioethics and humanities and professor of medicine at SUNY
Upstate Medical University, and Samuel Gorovitz, professor of philosophy in
Syracuse University's College of Arts and Sciences and founding director of SU's
Renee Crown University Honors Program.

The panelists will discuss the increased attention to inequities in access to health care
in the United States, with concern for how moral and intellectual integrity apply to
this increasingly significant issue.

University College offers a variety of community programs, including seminars,
