Soprano Julianna Sabol to present 'An April Soiree' April 15

Soprano Julianna Sabol, faculty member and co-chair of the voice department in the
Rose, Jules R. and Stanford S. Setnor School of Music in Syracuse University's
College of Visual and Performing Arts (VPA), will present the recital 'An April Soiree'
on Wednesday, April 15, at 8 p.m. in the Rose and Jules R. Setnor Auditorium,
Crouse College. The recital is free and open to the public. Parking is available in
Irving Garage.


Sabol will be assisted by three Setnor faculty members: Ken Meyer, guitar; Ida
Trebicka, piano; and Gregory Woods, cello. The first half of the program will include
works by Gounod, Massenet, Henessy, Heggie, Mozart, Schubert, Moniuszko, Tosti
and Rachmaninoff. The second half will feature works for voice and guitar, including
the "Canciones Espa?olas Antiguas," authentic, rarely performed Spanish folksongs
collected and arranged by Garcia Lorca. Other folk song settings by Britten, Leisner
and Copland will also be performed.


About the performers:


  • Sabol has given concerts in Canada, the United States and Poland as a soloist
    with orchestras, as a recitalist and on the opera stage. She is a winner of such
    prestigious competitions as the National Opera Association, the Jerome Hill
    Memorial Award in the Metropolitan Opera auditions, the National
    Association of Teachers of Singing artist auditions and the Mu Phi Epsilon
    International Competition. She has appeared as a soloist for consecutive
    seasons with the Platteville, Wis., Summer Music Festival; with the Bach Aria
    Festival in Stonybrook, N.Y.; and in chamber music performances with the
    Syracuse Camerata, in the Dorothy Goff Frisch Concert Series and as recital
    soloist in her New York City Merkin Concert Hall debut.


  • Since winning the national first prize at the Music Teachers National
    Association Collegiate Artist Competition, Meyer continues to appear in
    recital, as a chamber musician and as a soloist with orchestra in venues
    throughout North America, South America and Europe. His commitment to
    cultivate, perform and record the music of his generation's leading composers
    has garnered awards from the Barlow Endowment, the Argosy Foundation
    and the Hanson Institute for American Music. He continues to be a featured
    lecturer, performer, adjudicator and teacher at festivals, colleges and
    universities throughout the United States and abroad.


  • Trebicka has performed throughout the United States, Europe and China as
    an orchestral soloist, recitalist and chamber musician. She has been featured
    on National Radio-Television, Italian Broadcasting Corp. RAI 2, Radio
    Ancona-Italy, WCNY in Syracuse and WBFO in Buffalo. She has performed
    chamber music concerts with members of the London, Paris, Athens, Rome,
    Munich and Bari-Italy Symphonic orchestras. She collaborates frequently
    with Syracuse Symphony Orchestra (SSO) members in annual chamber
    music concerts.


  • Wood is assistant principal cellist with the SSO. He has performed with the
    Aspen Festival Orchestra and the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, including
    its tour to Carnegie Hall and the Kennedy Center. He has performed for the
    Skaneateles Festival, the Society for New Music, Civic Morning Musicals and
    Syracuse Friends of Chamber Music. He has also performed as a soloist with
    the SSO, Pro Musica of Cincinnati, the CCM Concert Orchestra as a winner of
    its concerto competition and with the SU Symphony Orchestra.
