Syracuse University Library Associates will present a lecture by author Daniel
Czitrom on Thursday, March 19, at 4 p.m. in the Peter Graham Scholarly Commons
of E.S. Bird Library.
Czitrom will speak about his book "Rediscovering Jacob Riis" (New Press, 2008),
which offers a fresh look at the Progressive era social reformer, journalist and pioneer
photographer who publicized the conditions of the desperately poor in turn-of-the-
century New York.
Czitrom is professor of history at Mount Holyoke College. He is author of "Media
and the American Mind: From Morse to McLuhan" (University of North Carolina
Press, 1982) and co-author of "Out of Many: A History of the American People"
(Prentice Hall, 6th ed., 2008).
The lecture is free and open to the public. Free event parking is available in the Booth
Garage, one block from Bird Library on the corner of Waverly and Comstock
avenues.
