Organist Aaron Tan will perform for this season's Malmgren Concert Series' Rising
Star Recital on Sunday, March 22, in Syracuse University's Hendricks Chapel.
The concert will begin at 4 p.m. and is free and open to the public. Parking is
available in the Irving Garage and in the University's West lots.
For this performance, Tan will perform works by Alain, Bach, Dupre, Durufle and
Mozart.
At age 22, Tan is a passionate engineer, pianist, violinist and organist. He began his
organ studies in 2004 with John Tuttle, and he is currently under the tutelage of
Marilyn Mason in Ann Arbor, Mich.
This past year, Tan placed second in both the Royal Canadian College of Organists'
National Organ Competition and the Arthur Poister Competition. Tan has given
concerts in Austria, the Czech Republic, Germany and Switzerland. He is currently
the organist at the First Presbyterian Church of Ypsilanti, Mich., and is pursuing a
doctoral degree in materials science and engineering at the University of Michigan.
The concert is part of the Malmgren Concert Series at Hendricks Chapel. The series
was made possible by a generous gift to Hendricks Chapel from alumna Esther
Malmgren '42 in 1991. The free Sunday afternoon concerts, held throughout the
year, feature a wide variety of music.

Musical offerings at Hendricks Chapel will continue on April 19 with the Hendricks
Chapel Choir's 2009 Spring Concert. The choir will preview the repertoire it will
perform during its tour of South America in May.
