The Tarab Cello Ensemble, an acclaimed group of eight cellists dedicated to the
commissioning and performance of 21st-century music, will present a concert Tuesday,
March 17, at 8 p.m. in the Rose and Jules R. Setnor Auditorium, Crouse College. The concert
is free and open to the public. Parking is available in the Irving Garage.
The ensemble will perform works that demonstrate the great plurality of musical styles that
exist in contemporary music today, including "8" by Nicolas Scherzinger and "Lover Calls"
by Gregory Mertl, both of whom are composition faculty members in the
Rose, Jules R. and
Stanford S. Setnor School of Music in the
College of Visual and Performing Arts (VPA).
Other works include those by Caleb Burhans, Jason Treuting, Dennis DeSantis and Michael
Midlarsky, who performs with the ensemble.
In addition to Midlarsky, the Tarab Cello Ensemble features Elizabeth Brown, Adam Carter,
Alex Greenbaum, Susannah Kelly, Kevin McFarland, Laura Metcalf and founder Florent
Renard-Payen.
Formed in 2000, the Tarab Cello Ensemble has concertized in music festivals in France,
Mexico and throughout the United States. Its current tour includes venues in New York
City, Michigan and upstate New York. The group has held residencies at Princeton
University, the Patel Conservatory in Florida and the University of South Florida, and has
