Accounting students in the Whitman School of Management will offer free income tax
preparation to all SU students, faculty and staff on March 4 and 18. This service will
cover non-complicated individual tax returns that can generally be filed on IRS short
forms (1040 EZ or 1040A). The Beta Alpha Psi (BAP) Free Tax Assistance group will be
in the Flaum Grand Hall located in the Whitman Building on these two days from
noon-4 p.m.
The service will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis and is directed toward tax
payers who may need a little extra help figuring out their taxes. "Tax season is a
difficult time for everyone," says Mitch Franklin, assistant professor of accounting in
the Whitman School. "This program allows students to put into action all of the
information they are learning in their classes in order to help out their fellow
colleagues."
Tax forms will be provided to those who do not yet have them. Contact Franklin at
mifrankl@syr.edu or Bridget E. Alameda at
bealamed@syr.edu for more information.
