The Protestant worship service at Syracuse University's Hendricks Chapel on
Sunday, Jan. 18, will include a special focus on the life and work of Martin Luther
King Jr.
The service, led by the Rev. Tomi Jacobs, Protestant chaplain, will begin at 11 a.m. in
the main chapel. All are invited to attend.
In her sermon, Jacobs will preach her reflections on the eulogy for the Rev. James
Reeb, which was delivered by King on March 15, 1965, in Brown Chapel in Selma,
Ala. Reeb, a white Unitarian Universalist minister from Boston, was severely beaten
by segregationists on March 9, 1965, while marching for civil rights in Selma. He
died of his injuries two days later at the age of 38.
The service is part of a complement of activities taking place on campus that day to
honor King's life and work.
