Information technology has advanced rapidly since the SUMMIT library catalog was
developed. User needs and preferences have also changed as Web tools have become
prevalent. To address new needs and expectations, improve functionality and take
advantage of new technologies, a Syracuse University Library team is now exploring
options and developing specifications for a new interface to the library catalog. The target
date for implementation is fall 2009.
A key component in this process is to gather opinions from all facets of the University
community-students, faculty, staff-and community users about their experiences with the
current system and ideas for features in a new system. To encourage broad-based input, the
library will offer multiple methods for participation, including an online feedback form on
the library website as well as print forms in campus libraries.
The link to a short feedback form (10 questions) will be available through the end of
December. Those who are interested in participating in a face-to-face focus group should
contact Nancy Turner at 443-2237 or nbturner@syr.edu. For additional information about
the project, contact Terriruth Carrier at 443-8456 or tecarrie@syr.edu.
