An interactive Web conference on the use of information and communication technology
and social media in the 2008 elections will be held Friday, Nov. 14, from 1:30-3 p.m. The
discussion will be hosted by the American Political Science Association (APSA) and the
APSA Organized Section on Information Technology and Politics.
The "Rapid Response" Web conference will be held in the "virtual conference room" of the
Center for Research on Collaboratories and Technology Enhanced Learning Communities
(Cotelco) at Syracuse University. To participate in the discussion, visit

meeting entitled "APSA ITP-Rapid Response-Social Media in the 2008 Elections."
Discussion moderators are SU School of Information Studies associate professor Derrick L.
Cogburn, who is also president of APSA ITP, and noted media personality George
Kilpatrick. Other participants will include active members in the APSA ITP section. The
discussion is free and informal.
Space in the virtual conference room is limited, and entry will be permitted on a first-come,
first-served basis. The minimum requirements to participate are 20 MB free disk space, a
soundcard with speakers or headset, an internal or external microphone if you would like to
participate verbally, and a 28.8 Kbps Internet connection. Supported platforms are
Windows, Mac, Linux and Solaris.
