On Nov. 5, Syracuse University commended U.S. Sen. Joseph R. Biden Jr. (D-DE), SU College of Law Class of 1968, on his election to serve as vice president of the United States:
"Syracuse University and our College of Law wish to congratulate distinguished
alumnus Sen. Joseph Biden on becoming vice president-elect of the United States.
The Syracuse University College of Law students and the entire SU community proudly
look forward to following Sen. Biden's outstanding leadership to the American people in
this important national role."
An active College of Law alumnus, Sen. Biden has given the keynote address for the
SU Law Commencement three times-in 1994, 2002 and 2006-and also delivered the
keynote speech at the College of Law's Centennial Celebration in 1995.
He received the SU Chancellor's Medal in 1980; the SU Law Alumni Association's
Distinguished Service Award in 2003; and the George Arents Pioneer Medal, Syracuse
University's highest alumni award, in 2005.
On Nov. 7, SU and the SU College of Law celebrated Biden's election to the office of vice president with a full-page, full-color ad in the national edition of The New York Times. The ad, which appeared on page A17, was created at the recommendation of law alumni and was paid for by friends of the SU College of Law.
