The Community Folk Art Center (CFAC) is starting a Creative Arts Kids Club for
children ages 5-11, to meet on Saturdays from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. The club will meet at
the CFAC, 805 E. Genesee St., Syracuse, on Nov. 1, 8, 15 and 22, and Dec. 6. The
registration cost is 10 per class, or $45 for the five sessions.
This integrative experience offers children the opportunity to engage with art on a
multidisciplinary level through visits to the Herbert T. Williams Gallery to explore the
various artistic, cultural and historical themes of CFAC exhibitions and collections.
Students will learn how to think critically, express ideas and create art while learning
basic concepts such as line, shape, color and composition. Students will compose a
portfolio of projects in each five-week session and have an opportunity to display
their work at the end of the program.
The CFAC is a branch of the Department of African American Studies in The College
of Arts and Sciences. CFAC is a vibrant cultural and artistic hub committed to the
promotion and development of artists of the African diaspora. The mission of the
center is to exalt cultural and artistic pluralism by collecting, exhibiting, teaching and
interpreting the visual and expressive arts. Public programming includes exhibitions,
film screenings, gallery talks, workshops and courses in the studio arts, including
dance and ceramics.
