Larry Bashe '66, G'68 of Plainfield, N.J., has been named Syracuse University's national
annual giving chair for 2008-09. He assumes this key volunteer post from Wally Bobkiewicz
G'89, president of the National Alumni Association Board and the first annual giving chair in
the University's recent history.
"We feel fortunate that Larry Bashe has agreed to follow in the footsteps of Wally Bobkiewicz,
who has given generously of his time and energy to inspire others to contribute to The Fund for
Syracuse," says Tammy Schlafer, SU executive director of annual giving. "Larry has a real
passion for education, and I know he will be equally effective at motivating SU alumni to
support their alma mater at whatever level is significant to them."
One of the top priorities of the Campaign for Syracuse University is to increase annual support,
with a goal of raising $75 million in gifts to The Fund for Syracuse. As annual giving chair,
Bashe will lead this effort and serve as the University's spokesperson on the importance of
making annual gifts to provide flexible and immediate financial resources in support of
University-wide priorities.
"I believe stewardship is very important, and I can think of nothing more worthy than
education," Bashe says. "We all have choices about where we direct our energy and resources.
Supporting education through Syracuse University is the right thing to do. As national chair of
annual giving, my job is to make others aware of the incredible opportunities available to help
make SU an even brighter beacon of higher learning."
An investment banker in the public finance sector, Bashe received a bachelor's degree in
political science from The College of Arts and Sciences and a master of public administration
degree from the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs. He is a member of the
Maxwell School Advisory Board and is currently president-elect of Syracuse University's
National Alumni Association Board. In addition to his work with his alma mater, Bashe serves
on the board of Union County College in Cranford, N.J.
Bashe has been a generous donor to the Fund for Syracuse and contributed to the Maxwell
School Advisory Board Endowed Professorship. In 2002, he established a fellowship at the
Maxwell School in honor of his friend, Brian McLane, executive director of the Burton Blatt
Institute. Bashe also has made a gift to name a space in the new Carmelo Anthony Basketball
Center in McLane's honor.
