Kiwi Magazine, an eco-friendly magazine for parents with children ages newborn to
17, has included Syracuse University in its "2008 Green College Report: Fifty schools
that will help your kids help the planet."

Kiwi's 2008 Green College Report features schools leading the way in campus
sustainability, excelling in environmental stewardship, and making great strides
toward going eco.

"The Sustainability Division at Syracuse University is very excited that Syracuse
University has been acknowledged as one of the schools that will help kids help the
planet," says Steve Lloyd, SU chief sustainability officer. "It's exciting and
invigorating to be acknowledged as a university that strives to educate our students
as stewards of the world."

SU is noted in the 2008 Green College Report for:

  • committing to purchasing 20 percent of its electricity from renewable energy;

  • completing a comprehensive carbon inventory and working on a master plan
to reduce greenhouse gas emissions to net zero, as part of the American
College & University Presidents Climate Commitment; and

  • managing the Ten Tons of Love end-of-spring-semester program in which
students donate their reusable furniture, household items and clothing to
    charity.

"We've seen an explosion of environment-focused activities across the country," says
Judy Walton, acting executive director of the American Association of Sustainability
in Higher Education. "From the smallest to largest, community colleges to Ivy
    League, everyone's getting involved."
