Syracuse University's Kaleidoscope Project, an initiative offered through the Division
of Student Affairs, is now accepting applications for matching grants of up to $5,000
to bring programs to campus for collaborative explorations of diversity. The program
helps bring visiting lecturers to campus who will broaden the understanding of
diversity and promote healthy dialogue about related issues. The deadlines for the
next two grant cycles are Sept. 26 and Jan. 30.

The grant project was founded in 2003. It is designed to augment the inclusive
learning environment at SU; it does so by expanding opportunities for the campus
and local communities to participate in lectures where they can become more
educated about, and engaged in, meaningful discussions about diversity-related
issues like race, ethnicity, gender, age, religious beliefs, sexual orientation and
disability.

Available through a competitive application process to recognized student
organizations, University offices and academic departments, Kaleidoscope grants are
administered by the interim senior vice president and dean of student affairs. Grant
requests must articulate a clear statement of purpose, identify plans for
implementation and assessment, and include a detailed budget and list of
organizations or individuals that are committed to providing matching funds.

Proposals will be evaluated for the positive impact they will make in educating the
campus community on issues related to race, ethnicity, gender, age, religious beliefs,
sexual orientation, internationalization, disability or other forms of diversity.

Grant requests should be submitted in duplicate; grant seekers will be notified of their
status as soon as possible following the deadlines. For more information, or to receive
a grant application, contact Michelle Brisson, assistant to the associate vice president
for student affairs-inclusion, community and citizenship, in Room 306 of Steele
Hall, by calling (315) 443-4424, or by e-mailing mebrisso@syr.edu.
