The Syracuse University Senate Committee on Honorary Degrees invites all students,
faculty and staff members to nominate candidates to receive honorary degrees at the 2009
and 2010 Commencement ceremonies. The deadline for all nominations is Oct. 6.
Persons who wish to nominate a candidate should complete a nomination form, available
online at http://universitysenate.syr.edu/honorary/NominationForm.pdf and attach
requested materials that outline the nominee's qualifications for the honorary degree. A copy
of the nominee's vita or resume, or a list of the candidate's professional history and
contributions, must be included. If appropriate, include additional information, such as
letters of support or writings that attest to the eminence of the candidate. Each nomination
should be limited to eight pages.
The Senate Committee on Honorary Degrees will review all nominations and recommend
final candidates to the full Senate, which will make the final decision. If feasible for the
candidate and appropriate for the program area, honorary degree recipients will be invited
to present colloquia on Friday of Commencement Weekend.
Nominations should be submitted to Arthur D. Jensen, chair of the Senate Committee on
Honorary Degrees and associate dean in the College of Visual and Performing Arts, by mail
at Room 205, Crouse College.
