Dear Students, Faculty, and Staff,

It is with great sorrow that I reach out to you today to inform you about the loss of one of our students, who passed away unexpectedly this morning. A resident of Dellplain Hall, our student was a promising member of the first-year class, as well as a member of the Whitman Learning Community.

Our hearts go out to the student's family, friends, roommates, fellow Learning Community members, the Whitman community, and the faculty and staff who support our first-year students.

The death of a student is painful for any campus community. Everyone feels impacted in different ways and during these times we draw together to comfort those affected by this loss.

While the process of communicating with the student's family is ongoing, our Student Affairs staff is providing on-site counseling and support for the Dellplain community and others who were closest to our student. In addition, the University has a broad array of counseling services available to the campus community. For example, the Counseling Center (443-4715), Hendricks Chapel (443-2901), and the Faculty and Staff Assistance Program (443-1087) are all available to anyone who feels he or she needs support.

Cordially,

Nancy Cantor
