Starting this semester, the Syracuse University Department of Public Safety's (DPS)
Shuttle-U-Home will pick up riders at Watson Hall instead of Sims Hall. The move
will ease congestion at the College Place bus shelter and ties into increased safety
measures at the DPS Communications Center.
"There can be a lot of congestion at College Place with Centro buses, especially
during Dome events," says DPS Lt. John Sardino, who oversees the Shuttle-U-Home
program. "We want to ensure Shuttle-U-Home riders reach their destination in a
timely manner, and moving the pick-up location to Watson contributes to that goal."
Shuttle-U-Home riders will now sign up for a ride at the Students for Community
Safety Office in Room 019 of Watson Hall, and the shuttle will pick up riders at the
Q5 lot, directly adjacent to Watson Hall.
In addition to easing congestion, the move correlates with DPS' efforts to improve
security at its communications center. DPS recently instituted a policy that its
communication center's door will be locked after hours to enhance the safety of the
communications specialists. Visitors are now required to page a communications
specialist via an intercom system next to the door.
Shuttle-U-Home provides transportation from the SU campus to the University Hill
homes of SU students, faculty and staff. The service operates daily during the
academic year from 8:15 p.m.-3:30 a.m. For a map of the Shuttle-U-Home route,
which now includes Nob Hill and Greenwhich Manor apartments, visit
