Retiring Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs Dean John L. Palmer has been named a University Professor. SU's Vice Chancellor and Provost Deborah Freund announced the honor in remarks during farewell festivities for Palmer held April 25.

"Making you a University Professor is entirely self-serving on the part of the University and for me personally," Freund says. "For the University, it means you no longer belong exclusively to Maxwell, but are now free to share your wisdom with every school and college on the Hill. For me, it means having an opportunity to collaborate with an esteemed colleague."

The designation of University Professor is granted to those individuals whose accomplishments are of the highest order of importance and excellence, as recognized by peers both within and outside the University, nationally and abroad. The designation is one that the Chancellor and the Board of Trustees from time to time award to individual members of the Syracuse University faculty.

Other current University Professors are Gershon Vincow, Charles Driscoll, Robert Birge and Peter Simpkins. John A. Robinson is a University Professor emeritus.
